This means players wishing to recruit a certain conviction character will need to focus on that character's convictions during their playthrough. The only exception is Maxwell, who requires the player to also have completed Chapter 14 on top of the conviction requirement. For all but one conviction character, players can get access to that optional characters from a notification on the world map after Chapter 5 if they meet that character's conviction requirement. For example, deciding which nation to visit in Chapter 3 will determine whether the player adds Rudolph or Corentin to their party. Decision characters require the player to make a narrative decision during the events of the story. When unlocking party members, there are generally two different types of recruitment: decision characters and conviction characters. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the game's narrative and the Conviction mechanic, players will not be able to acquire every party member in a single playthrough. With a comprehensive roster of characters, players have plenty of options to work towards. Additionally, there are many optional characters available for players to add to their roster, each character giving players access to new abilities and tactics in Triangle Strategy to employ during combat. While the narrative starts the player off with a varied cast of units to utilize on the battlefield, these mandatory units are only a portion of the recruitable party members in Triangle Strategy.
